Safety Considerations

Safety and general system operations are the topics of the very first on site training course.  Once the system is mechanically and electrically installed, BrewTech Labs will inspect the system.  After our approval we will commence a two-part training course for all the staff that will have direct contact with the system. The first session focuses on general system safety and brewing operations, and the second part illustrates the use of the filtering system as well as offer a thorough review of part one.  Careful attention to potential brew-house disasters is paid, and although the system has many built-in failsafes, a strong emphasis is placed on individual knowledge and understanding of the process.

The system is equipped with multiple ways for a user to halt all equipment, including buttons on nearly every page of the PC graphical interface, as well as a clearly marked hard-wired emergency stop button located on the control.  Other, less obvious features are also in place to help eliminate potential problems.  For instance:

·        The heaters may not be run (even in manual mode) if there is not sufficient liquid in the tanks to cover the elements.

·        The pump and mixer motors are monitored for excessive current draw and shut down if in danger of overheating.

·        Only those individuals with valid Brewer ID’s and Passwords (those who have been trained by BrewTech Labs, Inc. and chosen by the customer to operate the system) are able to interact with the system… those without valid passwords are allowed to view data only.

·        The pre-loading of the addition hoppers minimizes user intervention during dangerous stages (Mash and Boil).

·        All heavy lifting has been eliminated through the use of 15lb-increment “Pillows” of grain in all of our recipes.  This makes loading of the system safer and easier for all operators.

·        Moving parts, such as the mixer shaft and pump have been made “Finger-Safe” through the use of custom fabricated perforated stainless steel.

·        All dangerous electronics are housed in a lockable, watertight (NEMA 4X) control enclosure.  Under no condition will the user need to access this area.

·        All automated valves are pneumatically actuated, leaving only safe ¼” flexible air tubing exposed to the user area.

Complete training and two sets protective gear as required for handling chemicals are provided.  In addition, the chemicals chosen by BrewTech Labs, Inc. are among the safest to handle. (5 Star PBW, and Starzene)
